Teaching Tips
Using the
Big 6
Rap is easy and effective!
- Introduce the Big6 model/ research strategy.Then
display
the Big6 Rap poster, and tell students that you have a song that will
help them
remember the Big6 steps. Have students listen to the song while reading
the lyrics. Repeat the song and invite students to get up and dance
while they learn the
lyrics.
- After a lesson involving one of the Big6 steps, ask
students to identify the step in the lyrics of the song. It is easy for
them to make the connection when you display the Big6 Rap poster next
to the Big6 poster. Play the Big6
Rap.
- At the end of each research session, during or after
cleanup, play the Big6 Rap to reinforce the steps they are going
through.
- Invite students to create
different movements to the steps in the song and have the whole class
learn them.
