Begin your research!
  • Depending on the resources, family members will read, view, listen, and interact with information that answers their questions.
    • TIP-- Use team work, and divide up the questions among group members. You can use index cards for taking notes. Large index cards work well for K-2nd grade children.Write one question at the top of each index card.
    • Tip-- Parents and older siblings can help younger children by reading information from sources.
    • TIP-- Try these helpful research links.

  • Make sure that each member takes notes to help remember the information.
    • TIP--Remember not to copy every word from a source. Write down only the important words and ideas that answer the question on each index card.
    • TIP--Make sure to cite your sources. List the sources used to answer a question on the back of the question index card. Check out the helpful research links page for more information on how to cite different types of sources.
    • TIP--Note taking can include representational drawings, diagrams, tables, labels, etc. Younger children can draw pictures, and parents or older siblings can help them with the writing and labeling.
