Big 6 Step 3: Location and Access

In this  step, you will locate both the resources and the information within the resources.
  • The family must locate and gather all the resources.
    • TIP-- You can do this together as a family, or divide the job between family members, giving each member the responsibility of getting one or more of the resources.

  • This step also involves being able to locate the information needed in a resource.
    • TIP--Teach your children how to do a subject search on the internet. Try the kid-friendly search engines in the helpful research links.
    • TIP--Show your children how to use the table of contents and index in a nonfiction book.
    • TIP--Model for your children how to use guide words and entry words in an encyclopedia.
